ACNE DISPLAYED DISCO TENDENCIES AT THE SPRING 2011 COLLECTION. METALLIC WAYFARERS.

Last night in Paris, Acne presented its Spring ‘11 menswear, a collection inspired by creative director Jonny Johansson’s fond memories of disco-blasting school dances. (”In my teens, I would travel to these summer dances in remote halls in the Swedish countryside,” he recalls in the show’s notes, ” ’cause that’s what you do.”) The collection itself includes pieces that should cause, as they say, panic in the disco—leather overalls for the hard-partying butcher’s apprentice among us—but just as notable were the sunglasses, a collaboration with France’s Thierry Lasry. Three square-framed styles—an oversized, mirrored version, and two smaller frames with an avant-garde electronica slant—are handmade using Mazzucchelli plastics. “Sunglasses were always the most important disco accessory,” Johansson writes philosophically. And, since they’re reflective, “you can check your makeup is pushed to the max!”
